Intended use:
DZT MS-PREP® columns contain highly specific monoclonal antibody to DON, ZON, T-2 and HT-2. The columns not only clean up the sample, but selectively purify the mycotoxins. Following extraction of the sample with methanol and water, and subsequent filtration, the sample extract is passed through the immunoaffinity column. Any mycotoxins present in the sample are bound to the antibodies within the column. The column is washed and the toxins released from the antibody using methanol. The eluate is collected in a vial for analysis by LC-MS/MS.
General information:
DON, ZON, T-2 and HT-2 belong to the Trichothecenes which are the largest group of toxins produced by the Fusarium moulds. DON is also called vomitoxin because of its emetic effects on swine and other animals. In humans, several cases of food poisoning related to DON contaminated cereals have been reported.
DON often occurs along with ZON in abundance in wheat, barley and maize. ZON is an oestrogenic substance, which has been demonstrated to affect pigs, cattle, poultry and rodents. High concentrations are associated with reduced fertility, impaired foetal development and embryonic death.
T-2 and HT-2 are toxic substances produced by several species of the pink fusarium moulds. These mycotoxins are often found in cereals and feed and can cause acute symptoms in livestock and poultry including vomiting , feed refusal and poor weight gain. They can also have chronic affects on animals such as immunosupression, oral lesions and lethargy.
